What are Cassia fistula pods, or Amaltas Phali?

The Pods that develop on Amaltas Trees are called Amaltas Phali (Cassia Fistula Pods). India is the home of the wonder plant amaltas. It is a deciduous tree with yellow blossoms that is regarded as one of India's most attractive trees. In Ayurveda, Amaltas is also referred to as Rajvraksha, which translates to "the king of herbs."Amaltas bears alternating, ovate-shaped leaves with four to eight leaflets on either side that reach a height of 25 cm. The flowers are often brilliant yellow pentamerous and slightly zygomorphic in shape, and they grow in bunches. In contrast, the fruit pods are primarily green when they are young and turn brown as they mature.

The plant can grow on calcareous, red, and volcanic soils but often does best in a deep, well-drained, sandy loamy soil that is relatively rich. The plant is typically found growing in low-lying coastal regions near gardens, seasonal dry forests, rain forests, woodlands, riverine gallery forests, forested grasslands on dry scrub, and thickets.

USES:

Amaltas is a fantastic treatment for constipation. Its Sramsana nature aids in the management of constipation.

Additionally, amaltas can be utilised as a treatment for Pitta and Vata dosha.

Glycosides, Anthraquinones, Fistulic Acid, Sennosides, Sugars, Saccharose, Mucilage, Pectin, Anthraquinones, Rhein and Rheinglucoside are only a few of the bioactive components found in Amaltas. These ingredients support better digestion and a greater flow of digestive juices throughout the digestive system.

A stew can be made with the young leaves and blossom buds of amaltas. The astringent quality of the tender leaves, when consumed as a soup, can be beneficial for digestion; this feature also aids in reducing gas development in the stomach. Betel paste uses the astringent qualities of the bark, whereas plant pulp can be used as a spice and used to improve the flavour of many dishes.

Constipation results from an inflamed Vata dosha, which is brought on by frequent consumption of junk food or excessive amounts of coffee or tea, all of which aggravate Vata dosha and produce constipation.

Benefits:

The herb amaltas aids in the management of rheumatoid arthritis and piles.

People who lead sedentary lifestyles, consume excessive amounts of alcohol, and have poor diets frequently get piles. All three doshas are harmed by this, but Vata is most affected. Constipation results from a low digestive fire brought on by an exacerbated Vata. As a result, the veins in the rectum area enlarge, resulting in pile bulk. Amaltas' Sramsana (basic purgative) characteristic makes it useful in the management of constipation. This lessens the size of the pile bulk as well.

Increased stomach acid is referred to as hyperacidity. The digestive fire is hampered by an intensified Pitta, which results in incorrect food digestion and the generation of Ama (acidity). In the digestive tract, this Ama builds up and results in hyperacidity. By preventing Ama from getting absorbed into the blood stream through adequate digestion, Amaltas aids to minimise hyperacidity. The herbs in Amaltas also aid in clearing the digestive tract of any stored Ama so that hyperacidity is no longer a problem.

Recipe: Take one Amaltas Phali (Cassia Fistula piece). Divide it in small pieces (4 to 5). Dip it in Water for at least 24 hours. Mash its white side with Spoon or knife.
